What better place to spend Columbus Day weekend than Telluride?!? I recently started mountain biking and am still trying to find my legs. After a beginner clinic last Sunday, I was anxious to try out my new skills. On the drive to Telluride, I stopped at Phil's World near Cortez, CO. The 35ish miles of singletrack provided a fantastic playground of ledges, cliffs, mesas, and ravines for trying out some new techniques, gaining some confidence on the bike, and having a really-great-like-you-had-when-you-were-a-kid kinda fun.

The falls colors against snow-covered peaks in Telluride were
more beautiful than any photo I could take. A Sunday hike and some
Monday singletrack riding (my first in snow and ice), along with some
delicious dinners, tasty beer, and comfy beds produced a weekend I'll
have a hard time topping.

Cool! I was up there over the 4th of July. It was very scenic. I tried to run the trail from the gondola at Mountain Village to the other halfway to the town (i.e. up the mountain). I'm not a mountain biker either, so kudos for trying to pick it up... someday.
